The Mallee region in Victoria, Australia covers an area of 40,000 square kilometers and is home to approximately 60,000 people. Here are some interesting facts about the region:

1. The Mallee region is known for its vast and flat landscape, with sandy soils and scrubby vegetation.

2. The region is named after the Mallee eucalyptus tree, which is one of the dominant plant species in the area.

3. The Mallee is home to a number of rare and threatened species, including the Mallee emu-wren, the regent parrot, and the western whipbird.

4. The region was historically used for sheep grazing, but in recent years has shifted towards cropping, with wheat and barley being the main crops grown.

5. The Mallee is prone to drought and bushfires, and has experienced a number of major fires in recent years, including the devastating Black Saturday fires in 2009.

6. The town of Mildura, located in the heart of the Mallee, is known for its citrus fruit production, particularly oranges.
